PERSONAL STATEMENT
Education has the power to provide students with opportunities to make positive impacts on the world. I want to create a classroom that helps prepare students for life both inside and outside of the school institution. In today’s society, mastery of language is both celebrated and expected.
As an English teacher, I want my students to experience a variety of outlets for language and to discover how they can become active participants in discourse. Through literature and writing, I want my students to learn that they are not obligated to grow into adults who live stagnant lives. Instead, I want to show students that they can use the skills developed in English class to keep growing and to lead diverse lives through writing, reading, and reflecting.
As a professional educator, I will help students develop skills to articulate their ideas and perspectives through writing, gradually moving from apathy to activism. School is a pivotal place for young adults to practice and refine writing, reading, and speaking skills so they are better prepared for life outside of the classroom.
